Way of the Peaceful Warrior: A Book That Changes Lives
by Dan Millman ()
average customer review:

During his junior year at the University of California, Dan Millman first stumbled upon his mentor (nicknamed Socrates) at an all-night gas station. Socrates proceeded to teach Millman the "way of the peaceful warrior." Although the character of the Socrates seems like a fictional, modern-day Merlin, Millman asserts that he is based on an actual person.

James Taylor is The Driver, a car-obsessed racer with a concentration that precludes conversation. Dennis Wilson is The Mechanic, an equally obsessed lost soul at home only in the car or under the hood. No names, only designations.

Somehow we all feel stuck: in the past, in the present, creatures of habit, addicted to trauma, co-dependent, and unwilling to find job fulfillment. Almost immediately, the author becomes hopelessly tangled in an entire nation's neuroses: shellshock, obesity, procrastination, infidelity, and being constantly late.

A film about the anxieties and moral dilemmas that arise from the anticipation of death and killing. These roiling emotions are focused on the character of Private Bozz, whose insubordination betrays a singular knack for leadership during infantry training at Fort Polk, Louisiana, in 1971.
